 Oh my god so this annoyed me so much— but not for the usual reasons.

So I LOVE HTTYD, and was just rewatching both Riders of Berk and Defenders of Berk. Both are super sweet and charming, and for the most part carry on the legacy of the first movie really well! They’re dubiously canon (while Race to the Edge is apparently confirmed to be canon by the director), but set the stage for a lot of what happens in RttE.
In particular, one character who ends up being VERY important in the last season of RttE. Spoilers for the series from here on out!

     This is something actually elaborated upon by movie staff (I believe even the director?). The Light Fury is a subspecies of the Night Fury. In short, this means that their evolutionary path began with the Night Fury, like a dog's began with a wolf's. To find it in simple terms, "A subspecies is a category in biological classification that ranks immediately below a species" (ex: leopard vs African leopard). This means that they are genetically compatible and can produce offspring (in most, if not all cases), such as the NightLights.

     Summing up my issues with THW would take way longer than this point, so I'll try to do that another time. Instead, you get a bit of inner thought (rant?) as to why I personally not only doubt that all Night Furies are extinct, but vehemently deny such a ludicrous claim.
